Pimping Your Ride

As long as companies have been making cars, creative types have been customizing them to make them their own. When I was a wee lad, I used to dream of getting an Austin Mini, dipping the body in cast iron, and putting the body on a monster truck frame/chassis, with a drop-down chain-link ladder of course :). Sadly, so far this is still just a dream for me, as I have not been able to actually make that happen as of yet.  Also my desires and tastes have changed slightly since I was a teenager and I did actually get to pimp one ride already so far(see below).

I had a giant bean bag and turntables on a funky wheeled custom metal dj stand in the back. My retro-mod artist friend wrapped it for me with fluorescent shiny vinyl and it was definitely a hit around town. Unfortunately the engine was a bad buy and constantly had problems, which came right around the time this dear recession started hitting all of our lives, so I couldn’t afford to pour more money into it and had to sell it when I moved states as I didn’t like it’s chances making it from the desert all the way uphill to the rockies. But I had some good times in that van – even slept a few off in it on the bean bag in the back and it was quite comfy indeed.

Extra Style= Extra Insurance
If you put a lot of work and moolah into tightening up your style, you should probably think about getting some high end insurance to protect your investment. You wouldn’t want to put in all that time, money and effort and then just get liability coverage.  If you did that and it got stolen or totaled you’d be screwed. So don’t skimp on insurance
and if you can’t afford it then you probably should re-think pimping out your ride in the first place and go buy some ramen instead 😉

A pimped out ride or supercar is a beacon for thieves, so you want to be protected against everything. It needs to ideally be garaged/warehoused and lojack and flamethrowers never hurt as a deterrent either. High end design, high end storage and high end insurance – you need all three if you want to do it right. So before you pimp, plan – you need to do a budget that includes all possible expenses related to the project, and that includes insurance. So talk to an insurance company or check options online so you can make a good decision and protect you investment (it’s really the object of your affections, but we won’t tell your girlfriend) for years to come.

If you can dream it, you can do it – the sky’s the limit nowadays.  Do your research on the web, talk to other custom car enthusiasts in person or online and start to formulate your plan.  You can do it – yes you can.
